Convert PowerPoint presentations to PDF offline

Choose PDF or slide imagery for PowerPoint distribution, distinguish PPTX from legacy inputs, and validate static presentation results.

Definition. PowerPoint-to-PDF conversion turns a presentation into a PDF document for a static reading workflow. OfficeAPI reads .pptx and documents PDF output in the PowerPoint family. It also reads legacy .ppt files, so a local application can handle both generations of presentation material.

Which presentation inputs are supported?

The matrix groups 3 additional Office Open XML presentation/template inputs alongside .pptx: .pptm, .potx and .potm. Check the exact row for your file rather than assuming that every PowerPoint-related extension has the same input and output support.

Format Documented input Documented output
.pptx presentation Yes Yes
.ppt legacy presentation Yes No
.pptm macro-enabled presentation Yes No
PDF in the PowerPoint family Vector PDF Vector PDF and image PDF

Reading a macro-enabled file does not establish that macros execute. Likewise, support for presentation files does not make a static PDF a playback surface for animations, transitions or embedded media.

How do you choose between PDF and images?

The published matrix lists 2 documented PDF output variants, vector and image PDF, as well as bitmap and vector image outputs. Evaluate PDF when recipients need a document container. Evaluate images when your application needs imagery to place inside another interface. Use presentation preview when the user only needs to inspect the source file inside your product.

For PDF and image choices, compare legibility and the actual receiving surface with a representative slide deck. Do not assume a particular image resolution or page-to-file naming rule without consulting the integration you use.

How should you validate a slide deck?

  1. Confirm the source extension and output row in the conversion matrix.
  2. Choose one of the 2 invocation paths and produce a separate result file.
  3. Compare the result with the source: title slides, dense charts, tables, unusual aspect ratios and slides with overlapping objects.
  4. Open the result in the exact reader or application your recipients use and verify the expected reading order.

Keep slides that depend on motion or media in a separate evaluation group. A still image can show a visual state without reproducing the interaction that made the original slide useful.

Frequently asked questions

Can conversion happen without uploading the deck?

Yes. OfficeAPI's engine runs offline on the device or servers you operate.

Does PDF retain an interactive slideshow?

This guide describes static document output. Do not use format support as a promise that slideshow interactions survive conversion.

Can I write a legacy PPT file?

The matrix lists .ppt as input-only. .pptx is a documented PowerPoint output.
